SALEM, Ore. — The only state representative who voted against a bill that would extend the statute of limitations for rape survivors has changed her mind.
Janelle Bynum, whose district covers parts of Portland, along with Clackamas and Multnomah counties, says she's now on board because the bill has been amended.
Rape victims would have five years to file a civil suit instead of seven.
Bynum says she favors the shorter time limit because "the accused also need protection."
